Most people who aspire for weight loss want it quick. You can really blame them. The reasons that motivate people to want to lose weight can often only be termed as ‘pressing.’ We are looking at, for instance, a situation where a person has just been alerted, by his doctor, of the huge health risks he is entertaining by virtue of his excessive body weight. Now when someone tells you that you are at an enhanced risk of heart disease, high blood pressure/hypertension, diabetes, strokes and a host of other things of that ilk, you are likely to find yourself looking to lower that risk profile immediately. That is the search for weight loss motivated by health considerations.

There is also the search for weight loss supported by aesthetic considerations. We are looking at a situation where you have just learnt that there is an impending school reunion that you simply have to attend. The immediate problem, however, is that you have put quite a good number of pounds over the years. Frankly, you look like something of a mess. Yet you don’t want those high school friends of yours to get the impression that you have ‘let yourself go’ over the years. So, you have to lose the weight, and do it fast in the one month or so before the reunion!

Economically motivated search for weight loss is no less urgent. It could also be a fast approaching job interview which you cannot take chances with – but where you know that your chances for success will be severely compromised by the excess flab. So you have to lose it, and do so before the interview.
It is from such backgrounds, then, that people go looking for fast weight loss.

Unfortunately, the traditional approaches to weight loss are not likely to deliver such fast results. A diet, and a good one at that, would take at least 8 weeks to start delivering any tangible results. That is hardly what could be termed as fast weight loss by most people looking for it, although in the eyes of the diet vendors, that is by far ‘fast.’ Gym-based weight loss is likely to take even longer. But what you want is fast weight loss – so how do you get it? Well, that is where the various weight loss aids, which promise ‘fast results’ come into the picture.
There is no denying that some of these weight loss aids that promise fast results actually deliver on that promise (although, to be sure, the number that actually does is rather small). Yet such spectacularly fast weight loss, even where it is achieved, comes with a number of risks. For starters, many of these weight loss aids that promise fast results employ very unorthodox mechanisms in bringing about such fast weight loss. The end result is where you may have to pay for the fast weight loss results by way of obnoxious side effects you come to suffer at some later point.

There is also the other group of formulations that only work by temporarily ridding you of water retention. This way, for a short duration of time immediately after their usage, you truly appear to have lost weight, only for the weight to ‘return’ shortly thereafter. Whether what you access this way really qualifies to be termed as fast weight loss would make for an interesting debate.

What effect would nutrition have on weight loss? Or conversely, what effect would weight loss efforts have on nutrition? Those are the kind of questions that bring about what we refer to as the nutrition weight loss connection, whose exploration is the subject of our discussion.

Now in order to be in a position to make a meaningful exploration of this nutrition weight loss connection, it is essential for us to dig deeper, and try to find the real roots of the weight problem. A good starting point, in that direction, would be by taking cognizance of the fact that most of the excessive weight that we struggle with usually presents in the form of fat. Of course, muscle tissue and body water contribute a great deal to our weights. But it is the component of our weight that is made of fat that is most bothersome – both from a health perspective (in that it predisposes us to a whole range of scary health conditions), and from an aesthetic perspective (in that it interferes with our looks a great deal).

That fat which makes the most bothersome component of our bodily weight is, in fact, the form in which our bodies store food reserves, for use in a time of scarcity. In other words, our bodies are adapted to the reality of food scarcity (which was a very common incident in ages gone by), by way of a mechanism where any excess food they come across is harnessed and stored in that form of fat. This way, it can be easily expended, by being converted into energy to feed the various metabolic processes, in the event of our experiencing a food scarcity.

From all that, then, it has been worked out that if one can stop taking such ‘excess food,’ then there would be nothing for the body to store in the form of fat, and there would therefore be no weight problem. That is the first point at which we find the nutrition weight loss connection. There is indeed what can be referred to as a nutritional approach to weight loss: where by assessing your nutritional needs, and only taking up food that is adequate to meet those needs (and no more), you can leave the body with no extra to store in the form of fat. What we see here is the effect that nutrition can have on your weight loss endeavor. Indeed, taken further, if one (upon assessment of his or her nutritional needs) can have the discipline to take a little less food, especially carbohydrates and fats, than they need, the body can be forced to start burning reserves it had previously staked up in the form of fat. So what we are looking at here is the effect that nutrition can have on weight loss.

There is also a converse relation: the effect that pursuit of weight loss can have on nutrition, as another element of the nutrition weight loss equation. As it turns out, in pursuit of the nutritional weight loss approach, some people end up going to an extreme, and depriving themselves of nutrients they really need. The people end up driving themselves into malnutrition, often with dire health consequences. So the nutrition weight loss connection is both positive and negative.

Nowadays people prefer to be slim for attaining attractive body shape. Loosing of over weight is essential to avoid major diseases. A person’s over weight increases the rate of death risk. More over weight is the reason for numerous diseases like hypertension and diabetics which later leads to cardiac arrest and cerebral thrombosis. In addition to this, recent researches have proved that over weight is the root cause of breast cancer. Over weight people often struggle even for their normal mobility. They can only move in slow paces. Hence those who want to avoid these discomforts and attack of disastrous diseases should start loosing their body weight to a moderate level. If they can reduce their over weight, then they can console themselves that they have avoided the high risk factor of their life. Persons who can control their weight will be totally healthy both mentally and physically.

One of the reasons for the overweight dilemma is over eating itself. When people eat more food they develop more calories in their body. For healthy body they have to burn off these extra calories. To achieve this they must either work hard or perform daily exercises. In this way they can maintain their body weight to a considerable level. For people who do not perform hard work and daily exercises, these extra calories are stored in their body tissues as fat content. This stored fat content increases the cholesterol level of the body which later leads to Coronary heart diseases by blocking blood vessels. The blocks in the blood vessels cause numerous other diseases like kidney problems, paralysis and circulation problems. Hence we should control ourselves regarding the quantity of food in taking and seriously concentrate on physical exercises to burn off extra calories stored inside the body.

Our current lifestyle and environment also have some key roles in developing body weights and unhealthy conditions. Nowadays teenagers rely on various fast foods for quenching their hunger. The so called ‘fast food’ is with low nutritive value and high cholesterol content. The daily consumption of this food variety increases the body weight considerably and thereby leads to various health problems. Another lifestyle is eating while viewing television. This is too dangerous because people in take high food quantity unknowingly. While viewing television their concentration will be on the telecasting matters and they forget to control themselves.

This habit increases the body weight of individuals to a dangerous level. The current lifestyle also persuades people to lead a life with less activity. To cover even short distances they rely on vehicles and not give importance in walking. In this lifestyle if the people are not ready to increase their physical activity their weight will increase tremendously.

Hence to have perfect health with free of diseases, people must control their body weight by increasing their physical activity.

If you have been reading widely about weight loss and all that goes into it, then you must have come across some allusions to the existence of special ‘weight loss foods.’ Coming across such allusions for the very first time, you are very likely to have found yourself wondering as to what these foods are, and how they work in bringing about weight loss. Those are the questions we will be exploring here.

In order to be in a position to really understand the concept of weight loss foods, it is essential for us to have a basic understanding of the weight problem in question, and its (actual) causes. Briefly, what can be said to be a definition of the weight problem is where a person’s bodily weight is greater than what would be considered proper for him or her. There is actually an objective measure for this, known as the body mass index (BMI), which looks at your weight against your height, to tell you whether it is healthy or unhealthy. Of course, besides health considerations, there are also aesthetic elements of the weight issue: where a person with a relatively healthy weight feels that they could be more aesthetically appealing by losing some of it. Briefly too, the causes of the weight problem would include where a person is eating more food than is ideal for them, where a person is engaging in absolutely no physical exercise (or in very little physical activity), and where a person’s metabolism shuts down, due to chronic stress or something of that ilk.

With that kind of background knowledge, we can now get into the exploration of weight loss foods. From their name, it would be apparent that these are foods that promise to bring about, or expedite the weight loss process. To understand the specific foods in question, it becomes essential to take cognizance of the mechanisms via which they work, in bringing about the weight loss.
Now one of the mechanisms via which the weight loss foods work is by stimulating the body’s metabolism, so that more energy is expended, and so that more food (and fat) has to be burnt to yield the energy required to run such accelerated metabolic processes. Therefore any food which has a metabolism stimulating effect would qualify to be termed as a weight loss food.

Another mechanism via which the weight loss foods work is by energizing the person taking them, and thence making the person more motivated and more capable of physical exercise. In actual fact, most of the foods that have a metabolism stimulating effect also have this energizing effect. But any food that can make you feel more energetic and therefore more inclined towards physical exercise would qualify to be termed as a weight loss food.

Yet another mechanism via which the weight loss foods work is by ‘filling up’ the person making use of them. When a person is filled up in that way, their motivation towards binge eating is greatly reduced. Effectively then, the weight loss food would have served as an appetite suppressant. It is worth recalling that binge eating is the root cause for most of these weight problems. In other words, they usually come about as an indirect result of compulsive eating. On the other hand, this state of being ‘filled up,’ brought about by some weight loss foods would make one less prone to bingeing temptations, and would therefore go a long way towards bringing about enduring weight loss.

One concept around which there has been a lot of hype in recent days is the concept of natural weight loss. Upon hearing about it, the first question that a person is bound to have is as to whether, in the converse, there is something like ‘unnatural weight loss.’ But to make sense of these matters, one first has to have some insight into the fundamentals of the weight problem.

Now the weight problem comes into being when a person’s bodily weight turns out to be excessive. Two situations bring a person to that position. The first of those is where a person’s food consumption is far greater than their needs. The body, faced with this extra food, doesn’t just let it go to waste: it stores it. The food is stored in the form of fat, and that – if it continues to accumulate – would have the net effect of making the person overweight. The second situation is where a person doesn’t engage in any physical activity. Given that our bodies were made for movement, when a person absolutely doesn’t engage in physical activity, what happens is that they don’t have any opportunity to burn up even the ‘ordinarily adequate’ food they take. This way, they end up accumulating weight. Matters come to a head when a person happens to suffer any form of stress. When our bodies are in a state of distress, they instantly switch to the ‘fight or flight’ mode. In this state, metabolism is slowed down. And what this means is that when a person is constantly living in a state of arousal/stress, their metabolism gets so used to being slowed down that it eventually shuts down. In this state, the body tries to keep bodily processes at minimum speed which leads to a situation where energy is not really being expended. And far from being burnt, the excess food (in the form of fat) keeps on piling –leading to even more weight.
Since such excess weight is harmful to the carrier of it, it has to be lost. Now various approaches have been developed, through which weight can be lost. And when we talk of natural weight loss, what we are actually referring to is the situation where weight is lost, or at least where attempts to lose weight are made, using natural aids. These natural aids to weight loss (that bring about what is referred to as natural weight loss), are three in number.

The first natural weight loss approach is where diet modification is employed, to preempt any further accumulation of fat in the body. Foods that are conducive to weight loss are consumed, in amounts that are conducive to the same goal.

The second natural weight loss approach is where exercise/enhanced physical activity is deployed. When a person is exercising, their energy requirements go up, and the body is forced to burn fat to feed these much raised energy requirements.

The third natural weight loss approach is where naturally occurring (as opposed to synthetic) weight loss supplements are used. These work in many ways. The commonest is where they simply stimulate metabolism, raising the body’s energy requirements. By doing this, they force the body to start burning the food reserves stored in it in the form of fat (to meet the much enhanced energy requirements), the end result being weight loss.

From ancient times people have considered fasting as one process which when done regularly will help the whole body and intestines to work normally. Nowadays fasting is recommended by dieticians and doctors as a method to reduce weight by losing extra fat which is accumulated within the body. Indeed a fasting weight loss plan is very effective method for people with obesity to lose weight.

When you consider all other methods of weight loss like taking in pills and medications for losing that extra fat stored in the body the pills might be effective in the short term as you will see a drastic reduction in your body weight. But it is better to keep in mind that the effect stays only for the time till you take the pills and once you stop it you will find that you would put on extra weight. There also will be side effects associated with the pills and you will fight yourself against other diseases. The other effective method is to reduce weight by means of regular exercise which helps to burn the fat deposited within.
Most of us really get frightened by the term fasting. While some of us believe that fasting is bad for the body and causes serious threats with regards to health there is another group who believe that there are only benefits to be gained by means of dieting. The fact is that if dieting is done over a long time period and the basic necessities essential for the body like water and nutrients does not reach the body then it causes a serious problem to the individual. Also remember that water is an indispensable ingredient that our body requires for its normal functioning. The human body can go without food for any number of days but not without water which is the most essential which may be supplied to the body in the form of any fluids.

There are different types of fasting weight loss methods usually practiced worldwide. But before committing yourself to one dieting plan it is better that you consult your doctor and seek his advice. A lot of methods are available and there are professionals and many institutions who teach individuals the fasting methods. The internet is also a treasure house of such information’s.

The different types of fasting weight loss programs are listed below.
•	Water Fasting : Water fasting is an effective method to reduce those extra calories .This will help your digestive system to relax and helps in the detoxification of your intestines .It is a very fast method of losing weight since you are drastically reducing the intake of calories into the body. You need to drink plenty of water so that your body remains hydrated and if you will feel tired or dizziness it is better you have some food to reduce the symptoms.

•	Juice Fasting: is another method which is very similar to water fasting .In this method you substitute juice instead of water .Prepare your own fresh juices by purchasing fresh fruits and abstain from going in for bottled juices available in the stores because this will contain more amount of sugar and artificial flavors which will ultimately defeat the purpose of dieting.

•	Intermittent fasting: is another very effective fasting method where you have a wholesome and big meal one day and fast the very next day .This is very good fasting method to lose those extra calories and lose weight within a short span of time.

The first key to understanding the low carb diet would lie in taking early cognizance of the fact that the word ‘carb’ in the phrase stands for ‘carbohydrate.’ So what we are looking at is really a ‘low carbohydrate diet.’ The low carb diet turns out to be one of the most highly touted weight loss diets. It is said to be one that can bring about remarkable weight loss results and in a remarkably short period of time. And while many people have no contention with these assertions, they still express an interest in knowing how the low carb diet works, in bringing about the weight loss associated with it.

Briefly, what happens in a low carb diet is that the subscriber limits his or her intake of carbohydrates (alongside fats, of course), in a bid to bring about weight loss. Normally, the place that would have been taken by carbohydrates in his plate is taken over by proteins (as well as fruits and vegetables). This way, the person does not starve – they are still provided with adequate food, but food that is low in carbohydrate content.

In order to understand how the low carb diet works, it is important to appreciate the fact that most of the weight that we seek to lose is the weight that manifests in the form of fat in our body. In a weight loss effort, the idea is not to lose muscle. Neither is it to lose body water or any, God forbid, bone tissue. Rather, the idea is to lose the component of total body weight that is made up of fat. If water retention is done away with in the process, the better. But the focus is on losing body fat.

Now the only way fat can be gotten rid of from the body is by having the body combust it, to yield energy to fuel its various metabolic processes. But as it turns out, the fat is not the ‘default’ source of energy for the body. The fat is in actual fact a form in which the body stores food reserves to be used a source of energy of last resort, so to speak, when the body is faced with complete lack of other alternative sources of energy. The default sources of energy for the body are the carbohydrates, which are supposed to be broken down to yield the energy that the body needs to fuel its various metabolic processes.

The essence of the low carb diet, then, is to force the body to resort into combusting the food reserves stored in it in the form of fat, to fuel the various metabolic processes. When the body is deprived of carbohydrates (which is what the low carb diet does), it is left with no alternative but to turn to the reserves in question, and burn them up to release the energy in them. Of course, once the excess fat in the body is burnt in that way, the weight problem is effectively done away with because, as we saw earlier, it is this weight component made of fat that is most bothersome.

It is presumed, by this point, that almost everybody would be aware of the fact that most of the developed world is struggling with a weight crisis. This is a crisis in which most people turn out to be accommodating more bodily weight than would be considered healthy for them. The end result is increased predisposition to various weight-related health complications. These obese people will often also develop psychological issues, as the excess weight often causes them self image problems, which have a negative impact on their self esteem and by extension, to their overall happiness.

To help people deal with this weight crisis, various products have been developed. These are products that promise to make weight loss easier for the users. This would be happening in a situation where, in the absence of any other sort of aid, weight loss would only be possible by way of making dietary modifications and engaging in more physical activity. The problem with those two approaches, however, is in the fact that they require the people undertaking them to constantly make difficult choices. And making such hard choices on a consistent basis requires a level of self discipline that many of us simply can’t muster. It also doesn’t help that weight loss by dietary modification and enhanced physical activity requires quite a bit of time to come about, and many of us want weight loss urgently, in face of the health risks posed. The weight loss products, on the other hand, promise a way out of all this: by simply making the weight loss faster.

Now a piece of advice that has increasingly been dished out to people shopping for such weight loss products is on the need for them to actually check out the weight loss ingredients in the products, and base their purchase decisions on what they discover out of such analysis.

So why is it important to check out the weight loss ingredients, in any weight loss products, before making a purchase of it? Well, for starters, such analysis of weight loss ingredients in a product will give you insight on whether the product in question is genuine or not. You come to learn that there are folks who make a fortune out of other’s misery. Knowing that people are struggling with weight problems, they making or manner of dud products (sometimes nothing more than starch pills), and go on to market them as being ‘weight loss products.’ But paying keener attention to the weight loss ingredients in the products may help you avoid falling for such tricks. This would be the case where, for instance, upon being asked what the weight loss ingredients in their ‘products’ are, the vendors develop a defensive attitude; showing that they have something to hide.

Further, it is only through analysis of the weight loss ingredients that you can get insight on the mechanism through which a given weight loss product works. This would in turn give you insight on whether it is a safe product, or whether it is one you should only use at your own risk. An analysis of the weight loss ingredients in a product may reveal that it is indeed a product that is likely to have some efficacy at bringing about weight loss, but where it is also likely to leave you with nasty side effects in the wake of its usage. In such a scenario, it would obviously be inadvisable for you to use such a weight loss product.

In order to be in a position to relate with the mechanism via which weight loss exercise work in bringing about the drop in body weight, it will be important for us to go to the roots of the weight problem. This is where it would turn out that there are several causes of the weight problem, but one core root: namely the deposition of too much food reserves in the form of body fat. To get to this point, we will have to recall that the current state of our bodies is the result of millions of years of evolutionary adaptation. And in the periods gone by, food was not always readily available in fridges and stores as is the case today. Those were the ages when, at least according to some schools of thought, the human race was living the wild. Under such a situation, our bodies eventually developed a system for storing, internally, any excess food they came across; for usage in the periods of time when there would be any inadequacies.

But while times have changed, and the human race is no longer in the wild (so that we are able to store our food in granaries and fridges to avoid any inadequacies), our bodies haven’t yet realized this. So they continue to keep reserves out of any extra food they chance upon. These food reserves are, of course, stored in the form of fat – which can quite easily be converted into energy to fuel metabolism. This would have been alright, were it not for the fact that due to the readily available supply of food, the situation where those food reserves (in the form of fat) have to be used don’t quite arise nowadays. So the food reserves just keep on accumulating, and adding to the weight of the person they are deposited into.

What is worth remembering at this point is the adage that too much of anything is a poison of it. And while the body’s ‘spirit’ in keeping these food reserves in the form of fat is incontestably good, the truth of the matter is that when the food reserves accumulate too much, they cause problems. The problems we are looking at would include increased predisposition to various illnesses, interference with the person’s looks (as the person looks ‘flabby’) and so on.

So a way has to be found to get rid of those unneeded food reserves that are stored in the body in the form of fat. This is where weight loss exercise comes into play. What happens when we are exercising is that our energy requirements go up. And provided we don’t, in turn, increase our food intake to match the increased energy requirements, the body is forced to burn those reserves (fat) previously stored in it. If this is maintained for some time, the excessive food reserves are eventually burnt out in their entirety, to leave the person with a healthy weight.

Exercise also has the effect of unblocking a person’s metabolism, so that even when a person is not exercising, their energy requirements are still high. That way, there would therefore be no room for idle food reserves to lie around (as they get quickly burnt, to feed these high energy requirements).

In the wake of a major weight crisis, where millions of people are dying prematurely because of weight related complications, we are seeing more and more people starting to think more serious about what they eat. This they do after being told that a majority of the people who end up dying because of weight related complications have only their unhealthy dietary choices to blame for that fate they eventually suffer. We are looking at the reality that when a person makes a habit of eating the wrong types of foods (especially the so-called junk foods), consistently and in huge amounts, it becomes largely inevitable for them to suffer weight problems. Weight loss experts therefore tell us that maintenance of a healthy diet is all we would have to do, to overcome weight problems.

Upon being told that submission to a healthy diet is more or less half the battle in the fight against the problem of the bulge, the next question that tends to come up is as to what goes into the making of such a healthy diet. That is precisely what we will concern ourselves with, for the rest of this discussion.

Now it is important to note that there are two important elements of a diet that one has to think of, whenever the issue of dieting for weight loss purposes is under discussion. The first important element of a diet is that of the foods that go into it (that is, the foods that are consumed as part of the diet). The second important element of a diet is that of the quantities in which the respective foods that go into its making are consumed. The implication here is that you may have a diet made of the right types of foods, foods that are very conducive to weight loss goal, but as long as you are consuming those foods in the wrong (high quantities), it will have no use to you. Remember, even the healthiest of foods still has a fattening potential, especially when consumed in too large amounts. On the other hand, you may have a diet made up of ‘starving portions’ but if they are of the wrong types of foods, they may be of no use to you in your pursuit of weight loss.

A healthy diet for weight loss has to be balanced and varied. Granted some food groups may have to be consumed in small amounts (like in a low carb diet, where small amounts of carbohydrates are consumed, in a bid to force the body to start making use of the fat reserves to generate energy). But no important food group should be eliminated altogether.

A healthy diet should provide the subscriber with adequate amounts of food (that is, adequate from a health perspective, rather than from the subscriber’s psyche perspective). Granted, the idea in dieting is to limit food intake, in order to bring about weight loss. Yet that doesn’t mean that the diet should cause starvation. A better idea would be to substitute fattening foods with less fattening ones, so that the amount of food taken as part of the diet is still filling, yet contributes little to weight accumulation.
